I hate it when I can see the pattern on something that is supposed to look random. Beads on necklaces, prints on fabrics, "rocks" on vinyl flooring. I can always pick out the pattern repeat and it bugs me.
I always feel like the people who designed it think we're all too stupid to notice.
It's not that they think you're stupid. It's just that random is really hard and expensive on tile. Tile, by definition cannot be random. Maybe if they turn the tiles every which way, it might be more random than if not, but it's tile. With wallpaper and all such things, it's way cheaper and easier to use a pattern than one huge randomness, it just is. Now with beads, I can see where it could be random, but maybe it wasn't meant to look random. *shrug* I also suspect that you have a gift for seeing patterns which not everyone has. ;-)
ReplyDeleteYes! This! Except for me, it's the "seamlessly continuous" sounds in noise machines. I'll lay there, thinking, "Those three rain drops repeat in that sequence every fifteen seconds. Do they think I don't realize it?"
